Merits Health Products - P101 Folding Power Product Demo
Today we are going to talk about our P101 folding power wheelchair, which is a K0822 Medicare code. The P101 is lightweight and foldable for easy handling, storage and transport and has weight capacity of 300 pounds. Removable swing away foot rests come standard with the P101 but optional elevating leg rests are available.The P101 utilizes 12 and a half inch foam filled drive tires and heavy duty 8" foam filled casters.The P101 includes a programmable controller with a wide range of selections to suit the needs and demands of different users. The unit is powered by two removable 12 volt U1 batteries and includes a 5 amp off board charger. Charging the unit is as simple as plugging the charger into the joystick. A fully charged unit has a range of up to 18 miles depending on terrain. Height adjustable flip up arms allows the user to adjust the unit for easy entry and exit. Now let's see some of the driving features of the P101. Containing two DC 24V motors, the unit has a max speed of 4 miles per hour and features a 23" turning radius allowing the chair to maneuver in very confined spaces. A 10° gradient and 4.8" ground clearance makes driving up and down ramps worry free. Next, I would like to demonstrate how to remove batteries and fold the unit. The P101 features an easily foldable battery bracket that allows for improved portability. The unit weighs 150 lbs with batteries and a mere 86 pounds without batteries. Our device was designed to solve these issues. This device was designed for use with the Permobil Chairman 3000® and a user with ALS. As such, the mount was designed specifically for this model of chair, but a different mount could easily be adapted for other chairs. Evac+Chair.wmv
Evac+Chair are evacuation chairs which are lightweight and portable. They can be easily stowed in any hall closet. The chairs are generally made out of a metal frame and strong fabric. They are not nearly as functional or mobile as a wheelchair. They are designed to easily move down stairs, out of buildings and to safety. Although they are comfortable, the seat itself is somewhat more reclined so people are at a safe and comfortable angle when they descend stairs in the evacuation chair. The evacuation chairs work by gripping the stairs and turning them into a ramp for the chair to safely move down in a smooth and controlled manor. They usually have multiple break systems for both the person sitting in the chair and the person assisting, so it never feels out of control. They are also commonly made out of flame retardant material which can prevent burns and other close calls when evacuating a building. Most importantly, these chairs are pretty inexpensive which means that any small business that has employees who use wheelchairs can afford these devices. It is not enough to simply buy an evacuation chair and let it collect dust in a closet down the hall. It is an office's responsibility to assemble a volunteer team and train them in how to properly use the evacuation chairs during an emergency and delegate who is responsible for what during an actual emergency. You need to have a concrete plan and people need to know what they have to be accountable for in any emergency ...
